Remember all that advice we’ve given you about how to use social media to promote yourself? And all the important bits about what not to say or do on social media? Yeah, well … it looks like someone at SoundCloud took to social media with an announcement before checking whether that would be a wise move.

Last week, we reported that SoundCloud would allow DJs to upload mixes without any fear of consequences. Up until then, you were likely to have the music removed or, in the worst case, have your account shut down.

It turns out that the announcement coming from one of SoundCloud’s founders really was too good to be true. I guess he should have checked with the company’s lawyers before going public.

SoundCloud will be upholding copyright laws with some exceptions. Now, the company is stating that it won’t shut take music off the site unless there’s a complaint against it.

There are a lot of questions that remain around this issue, and SoundCloud isn’t going out of its way to be forthcoming with answers. In the meantime, you can read a bit more about the situation here. Beyond that, we’ll all just have to wait and see.
