A few days ago, Mixmag interviewed DJ Eats Everything for his thoughts on the art of DJ-ing. Among other things, he claims that his best sets are totally spontaneous. Not one of his sequences are pre-planned in any way.

He says, “I believe in the mantra ‘always go with the flow’. Never pre-plan anything – that’s just asking for trouble.”

I don’t know. Sure, there are people out there in practically every field of work who have that gift of spontaneity. It’s that ability to keep track of every song in your collection in your head. You’d have to be able to read and understand the mood of the audience in a split second, not to mention having the skill of putting all that together in an interesting and coherent way on the fly.

Eats Everything is clearly able to do it well given the fact that he’s won numerous awards for his creations. However, I’m not convinced that most of us could do it.

Where do you stand – pre-plan or by by the seat of your pants? Read the whole interview here.
