Cassette Sales Are Soaring!
Would you believe that 2017 saw cassette sales hit a high? It’s not an all time high. But still? How many cassette tapes do you own?
2017 saw 174,000 cassettes sold. That’s a 35% increase over 2016. Like vinyl, there are a lot of artists who are choosing to release their music on cassettes. Lil Uzi Vert, DJ Khaled, and Lana Del Rey were just three who opted for cassette release along with other formats.
Film soundtracks, like Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2, went in that direction, too. In fact, the tape of Guardians was among the top three best selling cassettes of 2017.
