How To Deal With Client Song Requests
Song requests from audience members is one thing. But, what do you do when it’s your client asking you to play certain songs?
Worst case scenario is the client who interrupts your playlist, mid gig, to request songs that don’t fit into your plan for the event.
Better, though obviously not ideal, is the client who tells you when you’re hired that he or she wants you to play particular songs. As a professional, you should make every effort to make sure your client is happy. If that means fitting in some songs you might not have chosen yourself, then so be it.
The big problem is that, as a professional, you have a duty and a responsibility to steer the client away from what could end up being a disastrous event if you follow his or her wishes.
No matter how important getting that gig is to you, remember one thing: you are the professional. You have to stick to your guns and convince that client that the event is sure to be a success if you’re allowed to be the DJ that you are.
Except for maintaining a high degree of professionalism, there really is no easy way to deal with a client who wants to dictate how to do your job.

I don’t mind request from my clients, i actually welcome them and ask for them. And i say this as i’m getting more into doing weddings and private parties. Now back when i was doing club or hotel poolside parties thats a different thing all together. I’d say being professional and good at your trade, you’ll find a way to make it work. Or you should be able to. My 2 cents.
