Well with any luck, she’ll be famous for ‘DJing’ instead of being famous for nothing. consider it an improvement.” (sic) Deadmau5

It turns out that Kylie Jenner was never actually booked to DJ at the SLS Las Vegas’ Foxtail Nightclub. The whole thing seems to have been some kind of uninspired marketing gimmick.

[*wipes tears*]

Ok, no. No tears. It’s a given that people shouldn’t be calling themselves DJs if they’re not. It’s also true that lots of people will jump on whatever bandwagon is most popular at any given time. Sigh.

The bigger question is why do we even care if the Paris Hiltons of the world want to win DJ competitions and have their pictures plastered on every magazine cover. For me, the answer is that I care about the industry. Anyone who’s spent time learning the ins and outs of an art and perfecting it cares about how the rest of the world views that art.

When we see celebrities suddenly become star DJs, it makes everyone else wonder what kind of talent it takes to do it. How hard can it be, right?

Whatever celebrities think they’re doing, and whatever the general public thinks of what the celebrities are doing. One thing is certain. You do know what you’re doing. So, keep on doing it!
