The shouts have already begun: how could a DJ who uses a controller win a championship that’s usually held by a turntablist?

It’s an argument that reminds me a lot of the “what makes a real DJ” debate.

Recently, New Zealand’s DJ The Abbott made it past Round 4 of the DMC Online DJ Championship. If comments on Serato’s website are anything to go by, turntablists are not amused. DJ The Abbott actually started on turntables in 1997. So, he has a solid foot in both worlds.
