Recent reports out of China are suggesting that the government has “banned ‘hip hop culture’ and actors with tattoos from appearing on television…” (mixmag). The state agency in charge of telecommunications in China has come down hard on appearance and sub-culture. One of the first casualties of the agency’s move was rapper GAI who was barred from appearing on China’s popular talent competition, Singer. Rapper VaVa has also been blacklisted. If you don’t think art can make a difference, you haven’t been paying attention.
