There’s a reason why everyone loves a festival. It’s fun. Even if you’re not totally keen on all the entertainment, the very fact that you’re away from work and hanging out with an awesome bunch of people is enough to make any festival great.

Well, maybe not any festival.

The Fyre Festival in the Bahamas was supposed to be a music-filled weekend loaded with all kinds of luxuries available at your fingertips. With tickets averaging upwards of $1000 each, you’d expect a few niceties. Festival goers were supposed to have access to limos, deluxe suites, amazing food and drink, you name it. It was also supposed to be a cashless event. Everything would be paid for digitally.

And then it all fell apart. Instead of a villa, the crowd had leaky tents. Instead of gourmet fare, they ate plain old ham and cheese sandwiches. Since locals had heard that cash would be scarce, taxis were nowhere to be found. It was likeΒ Survivor, but for real.

Ja Rule and co-organizer Billy McFarland are blaming the contractors in the Bahamas who were not able to build the accommodations in time. But, it sounds like a lot more than that went wrong. There was actually another concert scheduled for this coming weekend. But, that has now been canceled.

Let us know if you were one of those who had bought tickets for it.
