How do you choose which software and equipment to buy? That decision should be based entirely on budget and feel, right? You buy the best you can afford. You also consider which equipment meets your needs best, and which feels like a natural fit.

Unfortunately, there’s another issue that’s a putting monkey wrench into that process – that’s compatibility. Budget and feel mean little when the equipment you like and can afford are incompatible with each other and with whatever equipment is housed in the venues you typically play.

Pioneer DJ seems to have added to the problem. The company’s newest offering, the DJM-900NXS2 comes in at over $2000 … not exactly cheap. The product is billed as top of the line. So, what do you get for top money and top innovation? Well, apparently not compatibility. Timecode input for Serato DJ and Traktor Pro are not included.

Not only is compatibility an issue. But, it looks like support for HID mode within Traktor Pro or Serato DJ is conspicuously absent.

What do you think is going on at the decision-making table at Pioneer? Are the powers-that-be deliberately ignoring a huge segment of the DJ software market?
