How many times in the course of your DJing career have you crossed paths with someone sporting an enormous ego. Not fun, right? They want everything to go their way. They freak out when something interferes with their set. They’re tough to get along with. Their egos so big that there’s no room left in the booth for anyone or anything else.

I sure hope this doesn’t describe you. If it does, you need a reality check.

Confidence is a great thing to have. Actually, confidence is almost a requirement for DJing well. You have to be comfortable interacting with the crowd. You have to be able to convince a promoter or club manager that you’ve got what it takes to make the night memorable.

But, confidence is a long way away from too much ego. While a confident person can deal with unexpected problems and a variety of people respectfully. The person with too much ego acts in the opposite way. He’s the one who feels entitled, expecting everything he needs to be delivered on a silver platter. He’s also the one who’s angry and belligerent when his expectations fall short.

Be confident, not egotistical.

Wondering which side you fall on? Read this checklist to find out.
