How do you feel about David Guetta or DJ X Factor?

DJ Sneak, who’s been around for a bit, has a few choice words to say about Guetta and his like. Sneak and so many DJs like him can’t stand the stage antics, the overly embellished set-ups, and the pre-produced sets. There was a time when singers who lip-synched were punished by fans. That was true of DJs, too.

Not now, though. Sometimes it feels like the crowd couldn’t care less if a DJ comes to an event with pre-recorded or pre-planned sets. We used to go to hear music live because it would sound different than the record. The performer would do something spontaneous and different just for the crowd who was there that night.

That spontaneity did two things. First, it showed off the DJ’s (or musician’s) talent. You knew that you were watching someone who knew what they were doing. This was someone who sweated talent. Second, you experienced something that fans who didn’t get to the show never could. You watched that DJ put on a show just for you (and the rest of the people there that night).

So, a lot of DJs are complaining about how the industry has lost that creative, spontaneous, love-for-the-music edge. They feel that it’s more about the money now. Maybe. But, sometimes that kind of interest has a good side. DJing is now on everyone’s radar, which means that you can find yourself playing to a whole new set of potential fans.
