Yesterday morning when I heard the news of David Bowie’s passing, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of that loss. I was never a huge Bowie fan. In fact, I can’t really say that much of his catalogue resonated with me. Yet, there’s no denying his mammoth impact on all the arts. his curiosity and influence will probably not come along again for a very long time. That’s the heartbreaking part.

The songs that emerged during his late ’60s/ ’70s period – like “Golden Years”, “Young Americans”, “Changes”, “Space Oddity” and of course “Ziggy Stardust” – were the ones that continue to mean the most to me.

If you think his death doesn’t matter, you should pay closer attention to the music you’re listening to. His influence can be felt in everything. Even hip hop.

Have a second listen to these and see if you can pick out his contributions.
