Now, before you fall off your chair, that news might be somewhat premature and even overly dramatic. The story is that GPI Companies, a real estate group, has proposed to build a tall, mixed-use tower on the very spot that Amoeba has occupied since opening in 2001.
Before you panic, remember that these deals take years to finalize. A lot can change before the wrecking ball shows up. The owners of Amoeba Music have also published their own response to their customers’ fears. They state that nothing has been settled or even discussed. But the ideal situation would be one where Amoeba Music is included in any future development plans.
