I’d bet that DJing is what most people would consider a dream job. You get to listen to music 24/7. You get to drink unlimited quantities of whatever you want. You get great-looking men and women wanting desperately to be with you. You just have so much fun all the time, right?

This won’t be news to you: there’s both pleasure and the pain to DJing.

There’s no question that being a DJ is a lot of fun. For most DJs, though, a gig isn’t just a fun way to pass a Saturday night. It’s a living. For that reason, a good DJ not only has a lot of fun with it. He lays down some serious rules.

If you’re letting lots of people hang out in the booth with you, or you’re letting yourself be plied with a little too much drink, then you’re not in control.

The DJ booth is your work space. There’s no way you’ll accomplish any good work if you don’t create the right environment for yourself. You decide how many people are allowed in the booth with you, and you decide how much you’ll drink.

Like most people, you probably didn’t realize you needed to enforce hard and fast rules in order to be able to do your job well … until the gig when it all goes wrong.

What rules do you insist on keeping while DJing?
