It seems that as electronic music becomes more popular and mainstream, producers will be looking for ways to be different.

Like DJs who argue that vinyl has better sound quality and warmth than digital, there are producers who look for diverse sounds from the world around them. Imagine if you used the sound of a cicada or amplified the sound of flapping insect wings.

Daniel Gourski jumped onto the electronic dance music stage in 2011, and he’s nothing if not prolific. You can check out his page on Soundcloud to hear more of his stuff.

His latest project is called Cactus Trap. In it, he plucks the spines of a cactus then synthesizes that organic sound in different ways. It’s an interesting concept. But, I think I’d prefer to hear a lot more of the natural cactus sounds contrasting with the other, electronic, parts of the track.

Have a listen and tell me what you think.
