In the old days of stand-along monitors, musicians would often wear ear plugs to protect their hearing. The plugs were light enough that they could still hear their music, but would simply lower the volume, so to speak. For those people who play loud music regularly, hearing loss is a real concern. Headphones and in-ear monitors might actually compound the problem.

The same goes for DJs.

DJs find themselves surrounded by loud music. The music that feeds through their headphones is also often set at a higher-than-normal volume. So, what do you do to continue working but still protect your hearing?

Dangerous Decibels has published a guideline to help you determine “How loud is too loud?”
