If you’re like most DJs, you’ve always got your ear to the ground, listening for future gig opportunities. You’ve got your press kit all put together. You’ve got your mixtapes all ready to go. You’ve even spent time cultivating relationships with club managers and any other kind of hiring agent you could possibly think of. And you’ve done it all while you continue to practice, practice, practice your craft.

But, here’s something you might not have thought of. In between paid gigs, have you considered taking on some volunteer opportunities?

Think of it. The basis of DJing is all about bringing joy to people through music. Although the ultimate goal is to get people out on the dance floor, even just allowing them the pleasure of listening to music they enjoy means you’re a success.

So, here’s an interesting story, and something you might consider doing yourself. DJ Snowbro decided to take on a volunteer gig. He DJed a dance party at his mom’s seniors’ home. Everyone attending the party was over the age of 80. Some weren’t mobile, and even the one’s who were couldn’t dance like they once did.

In the end, Snowbro had a transformative experience. He showed how relevant his skills can be to a group of people that DJs don’t often consider. Read his personal story here.
