Armand van Helden has been around for a while. He made his mark through the 1990s with remixes of “Professional Widow” by Tori Amos, and by sampling Tara McDonald’s “Comin’ Apart” and Carrie Lucas’ “You Don’t Know Me”. He’s collaborated with A-Trak, Dizzee Rascal, Steve Aoki, and many others.

Van Helden was interviewed recently by InTheMix and revealed his thoughts on a whole range of topics. Most notably, he talked about how much harder it was to DJ through the ’90s than it is now. He says that DJs had to spend so much time digging through their crates that they never interacted with the crowd. They were also so much more stressed out because they couldn’t plan their sets as easily as DJs can today.
