The pioneers take the arrows; the settlers take the land.

That saying is as true for DJing as it is for anything else. How many of you are brave enough to experiment with mixes, genre changes and musical styles? Are you afraid to take the arrows that might fly your way if it all goes wrong? I’m not just talking about inserting a few bars here and there of something that’s known, but not too popular. I’m talking about mixing in music that’s really out there, totally different. Or using some kind of transition that no one would think would ever work.

You never know till you try, right?

That’s the key here. Pushing your creativity and conquering your fear of sounding bad. In the end, you sit back and listen to what you’ve created, and discover that it actually sounds amazing.

How about this: it’s one thing to go all experimental in your studio. But would you do it live?

Let me know if you’ve ever tried doing something completely different either in your studio or live. How did it go?
