Remember Eric B and Rakim?

By the end of the 1980s, DJ Eric Barrier and MC Rakim Allah (née William Michael Griffin Jr) had pushed hip hop to the forefront of all the different types of music genres that the ’80s had spawned. Their hit “I Know You Got Soul” was released in 1987, and is credited for being the inspiration behind “Pump Up The Volume” by M.A.R.R.S released that same year.
