It’s every DJ’s nightmare. If you’ve been unlucky enough, it’s been your reality, too.

You get to the venue. You’re ready to do your thing. But you can’t because of some technical difficulty. Maybe the club’s software is out of date. Maybe some cable isn’t hooked up properly. It doesn’t matter. All anyone knows is that the DJ isn’t playing any music and the vibe is dead.

One simple precaution can keep that nightmare from turning into a reality – prepare a flash drive. Better yet, prepare two or three.

Overkill? Think of it this way. Imagine that as you’re pulling your gear out of your bag, the flash drive that was stored there accidentally falls out onto the floor. You don’t realize that it’s fallen out, and the person who inevitably steps on it, didn’t see it.

Now what?

It’s no problem because you’ve got another flash drive stored in your pocket. Without further delay, you’re back on track and ready to go.

Your playlist plus a back up playlist aren’t the only contents on your flash drives. Save your logo to it, too. You never know when the lighting person or the manager might want to display it.

Also, bring along Serato updates or any other software update you think the club’s system might need. You might be able to sync all the tech stuff before you start your set.

What else do you save onto your flash drives?
