Let’s say you’re a club manager and you need to hire a DJ. Are you going to look for the best DJ even if he or she will charge a higher amount? Or are you going to look for the cheapest DJ regardless of what they sound like? Hopefully, you’ll go somewhere down the middle.

There are places around the world where the cheaper the price, the more likely you are to get hired. Have you ever experienced that in your local scene? Sometimes, DJs who are just starting out will charge a lot less than the going rate just to get a gig. Do you find that practice is cheapening the DJ pool?

This DJ has even thought about starting a DJ union. If you can swing it, that’s a great way to standardize prices and increase respect for the industry. Lots of other freelance professionals have done it with great results. But, it does take quite a bit of initiative to get the whole thing going.

What do you think? Would you join a DJ union?
