Def Squad Cyphers at BET Awards 2015
Who says Hip Hop’s dead? Not Def Squad, that’s for sure. Erick Sermon raps, “Hip Hop is dead. Then what am I, a zombie?” Ok, that one had me laughing out loud.
Anyway, back to Hip Hop not being dead. RAP doesn’t stand for Rythmic American Poetry for no reason. Cypher is central to RAP because it showcases the artist’s quick-thinking ability not only to rhyme well, but also to say something of some significance on the spot. Seriously, though, what is the point of raping without a message?
In this clip, Def Squad members – Erick Sermon, Redman and Keith Murray – cover topics as diverse as the state of the music industry, relationships and politics, even dropping some fun one liners along the way (like the one above that made me laugh). See how many gems you can pick out.
