Unless you’ve been working diligently to develop a following and have promoters knocking on your door asking you to play their clubs and events, chances are good that you’re the one working hard to earn a living as a DJ.<\/p>\n

Here at MMP, we’ve written extensively about how to attract a promoter’s attention and how to market your talents<\/a>. So, because this topic never gets old, there’s always more to learn, we’re giving you a few more important rules of DJ etiquette<\/a> to live by.<\/p>\n

Follow these, and you’ll be well on your way to getting hired more often.<\/p>\n

  1. Support the club or event you want to play at. The more familiar you are with the crowd and the theme of the club or event, the better you’ll be at selling yourself to the promoter.<\/li>\n
  2. Don’t contact the promoter over Facebook. Keep it professional. Give the person doing the hiring your press kit<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0Be humble. All your friends might think you’re great. But, there’s always more to learn.<\/li>\n
  4. Don’t be pushy. Sometimes life just isn’t going to be fair. Maybe you are the best DJ for the job. But, if the promoter doesn’t agree, stay calm, pick yourself up and just keep trying.<\/li>\n
  5. Know the venue. Like tip #1, if you take the time to get to know the venue, then you’ll know what genre of music the crowd will love. Give the promoter a demo that accurately reflects the vibe of the club.<\/li>\n
  6. Don’t rush. Just because a promoter hasn’t hired you, doesn’t mean that he or she has forgotten you. If you’ve handed them your professional press kit, then you’re probably still in their thoughts. Feel free to contact the promoter every once in a while, like to wish them Happy Holidays, just to keep your name in front of them. But, don’t be a pest!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
