Song requests from audience members<\/a> is one thing. But, what do you do when it’s your client asking you to play certain songs?<\/p>\n

Worst case scenario is the client who interrupts your playlist, mid gig, to request songs that don’t fit into your plan for the event.<\/p>\n

Better, though obviously not ideal, is the client who tells you when you’re hired that he or she wants you to play particular songs. As a professional, you should make every effort to make sure your client is happy. If that means fitting in some songs you might not have chosen yourself, then so be it.<\/p>\n

The big problem is that, as a professional, you have a duty and a responsibility to steer the client away from what could end up being a disastrous event if you follow his or her wishes.<\/p>\n

No matter how important getting that gig is to you, remember one thing: you are the professional. You have to stick to your guns and convince that client that the event is sure to be a success if you’re allowed to be the DJ that you are.<\/p>\n

Except for maintaining a high degree of professionalism, there really is no easy way to deal with a client who wants to dictate how to do your job.<\/p>\n
