I know a lot of you really like DJ Craze. So, I figured you’d enjoy an interview where he reveals his favorite performances and what he learned from Kanye. Craze is really a DJ’s DJ, especially given the fact that he’s won the DMC World DJ Championship<\/a> five times.<\/p>\n

Those titles are well deserved. I know there’s a general impression out there that DJ-ing is easy<\/a> and anyone can do it. In a sense that’s true. It’s true in the same way that anyone can learn to play an instrument. The difference between playing it and playing it well, however, revolves around elevating that instrument to the level of art. Art, in the end, is not just background music. It’s purpose is to make us feel and think regardless of how pleasurable or uncomfortable the result.<\/p>\n

DJ Craze, I think, is that artist. There’s a level of understanding that good DJs must have for timing, beat and rhythm (at the very least) like a great musician that Craze has mastered. There’s no point in listening to scratching when it makes you cringe \u2013 kinda like listening to bagpipes played badly. (Yes, bagpipes can sound amazing when played well.)<\/p>\n

An artist can elevate turntablism beyond the basics to the point where it inspires listeners to experience the music on deeper and more thoughtful levels.<\/p>\n
