For those of you who use SoundCloud, how would you feel about a Spotify takeover?
Daniel Ek, who founded Spotify, recently said this: “Today, Spotify has two million artists on its platform. To us, the next 10 years is all about enabling these artists to make a living out of their music, and connect them with a new audience. Today, our users say ‘introduce me to new music’. What the artists say is ‘help me find my audience’. Essentially, that’s two sides of the same coin.”
The reason that Ek’s comment is sparking rumors of a Spotify-SoundCloud takeover is because SoundCloud boasts a larger variety and number of artists than Spotify. There’s also been news that SoundCloud needs a cash infusion. Buying SoundCloud would allow Spotify access to that huge market.
