Any performer who can get out on stage and do their thing in the dead of winter has my utmost admiration. That’s something I’ve never been willing to do. I’ve always wondered how they do it. I know my fingers would freeze, my teeth would chatter, and I’d generally be miserable.

So kudos to all you DJs out there who aren’t weather wimps like me!

Performing outside has its own issues, though, that have everything to do with the weather. For instance, how do you protect your gear from extreme temperatures or rain storms?

The answer to dealing with the weather is to be as prepared as possible.

  1. Make sure your insurance covers weather-damaged gear.
  2. Check the forecast. Find out what the likelihood of poor weather will be.
  3. Find out if the venue offers space to move the party indoors if the rain decides to pour.
  4. Buy a tent and set up underneath it in rain or shine. Pick up a few tarps, too. In an emergency, throwing a tarp over your gear will be better than no rain protection at all.
