The battle between legal and illegal remixes continues. But, recent events have taken a turn for the better … for both rights holders and remixers.

Remixing music that belongs to someone else and uploading it to any kind of streaming service is illegal. That’s because the people who own that music are not being compensated for its use. Enter Dubset.

Dubset created a way to identify music – even just a split second of it – and determine who owns that music. The latest development is that Dubset and Sony Music Entertainment have partnered. Now, any artist making music under that label can be paid if their music is used in unofficial remixes.

This is a great development. The original rights holders are respected and DJs’ creative urges are allowed free rein.
