Some of the Best DJs Are … Women
I’ve written a lot here about the number of female DJs and the kind of diverse perspectives they can bring to the DJ industry.
Finally, the mainstream media might be starting to pay attention. Fader recently published a list of “9 All-Female DJ Collectives You Need To Know Right Now.”
They feature Discwoman, Sister, TGAF and a host of others. Women are almost never mentioned in conversations about electronic dance music, and mainstream hip hop … well, unfortunately that’s still an area that insists on reducing both women and men to stereotypical shadows of who they really are.
Women bring a different sensibility to a DJ gigs. But, what doesn’t change is that, like men, they care about the music and their audience. Male or female, a talented DJ is going to put on a super entertaining show.
