So, I’ve been thinking lately. I’ve been asking myself what is the point of owning vinyl when it’s all available digitally anyway? Is analog sound the only reason vinyl is still in existence?

There are still people who argue that there’s no purer sound than that which comes from a vinyl record. I must disagree. Digital sound is clear.

But today, I’m not really talking about whether or not vinyl deserves its reputation. I want to talk about whether a “real” DJ is someone who has learned to use vinyl.

A few days ago, Digital DJ Tips published an article arguing that real DJs don’t (necessarily) need vinyl. the author makes some good points – vinyl degrades and finding storage is a pain.

Technically, no you don’t need vinyl to know how to dj. But, personally, I like the hands-on-your-music nature of it. It’s somehow nostalgic.
