We’ve all been there, right? We decide not to wear protection because it’s not cool … hearing protection. Who wants to be seen plugging foam things into our ears?

Well, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that there are lots of ear plugs on the market that are very indiscreet. So, if you’re really worried about how you look, there’s something out there for you, too. The bad news is that if you opt to ignore the potential for hearing loss, you’re going to regret it for the rest of your life.

Lots of us have experienced the classic ringing in the ears or temporary deafness after a show. It might not be a big deal at the time. But, DJs have to listen to loud music often enough that we risk seriously damaging our hearing.

If there’s one sense that we can’t live without, it would be our hearing.

The main complaints with many ear plugs out there is that they muddy the sound and are uncomfortable to wear under headphones. As a DJ, you want to make sure that you can hear all the nuances so that you can make decisions about your set list. So, I have more good news for you. There are great ear plugs available that won’t muddy the sound, that are indiscreet and comfortable to wear, and that won’t cost you a fortune.
