So, you’ve managed to get hired. Congratulations, you’ve got your foot in the door! Right now, you’re thrilled that you’re booked to play once or twice a week. But, there’s going to come a day (or maybe it already has) when you’re going to want to increase the number of days you’re booked to play.

Of the crowd loves you, asking management for more time is going to be easy. And there’s nothing wrong with coming straight out and asking the booking manager for more nights. But, if you’re still kind of new to the club, you might want to do something else first.

The best way to make the hiring manager say “yes!” to your request is to cultivate a good relationship with everyone at the club. Be friendly to the bartender, the waitstaff, and, of course, the management. No one wants to work for a jerk. So, make sure you’ve made a good impression on everyone before you ask for more work time.

Have you been in this situation? What tips did you find worked for you?
