There was a lot going on in the 1970s. At the heart of the New York music scene was David Mancuso. Known to many as the founder of The Loft, “the first underground dance party,” Mancuso was instrumental in paving the way for DJing as an art. His love and respect for DJing was infectious, and soon inspired other discothèques, like Paradise Garage and The Gallery, to open.

Mancuso’s influence was never taken lightly. He and his work were honored in 2005 when he was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame.

David Mancuso was 72.
