Peter Rubinstein over at Your EDM has just published an article about a new DJ duo called CVNT5.

The catch here is that the duo is more like a comedy troupe than an actual bona fide DJ team. In this parody, they’re making fun of the meteoric rise to fame that some DJs experience thanks to ghost producers, black hat social media practices and support from those in the industry who sport dollar signs for eyes.

CVNT5 is real only in that the duo – Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge – do DJ, and they’re selling CVNT5 merch on their website.

For sure, what they’ve done is funny and a true comment on a real phenomenon. But, isn’t all pop music like this to some degree?

What do you think? Is it time for transparency in the music industry?
