What? That could totally be what the DJ in the photo is saying, right? Because, if you notice, there’s something missing from that image. It’s the laptop computer.

Apparently, popular LA nightclub The Cure and The Cause has moved to ban DJs who use laptops and controllers. Club owner Kenny Summit laid down the law after one too many issues with DJs who show up not knowing which cables match which system or how to connect the club’s Pioneer system with their own devices.

The problem, according to Summit, lies with openers who haven’t fully mastered how to make their system work in any circumstance. “Midnight,” says Summit, “is not the ideal time to turn the mixer off, pul it out and start guessing which port to plug your Traktor into.”

He does have a point, doesn’t he?

But, there’s another point of view to consider, too. Clubs are stationary entities. In other words, as up-and-coming or trendy as they might want to appear, the fact is that they can’t pour thousands of dollars into new equipment every year. The equipment they have available for DJs to use can become obsolete while DJs, themselves, are able to continue to move through the latest technology. Perhaps the issue here is that these DJs are showing up with new tech that’s no longer compatible with the older tech still being used in the club.

Have you had any experience with this issue? What do you think?
