Check out Hurricane Hank in the photo. He’s got that crowd mesmerized. They are hanging on every word he says. They’re not just there to hear his mix. They’ve come to see a performance that includes music and talking to the crowd.

I know some DJs might not see the point of that. You’re there to play the music, get the crowd dancing, and you’re done. Hey, if that works for you, don’t stop.

But, let’s say you want to reach for more … more following, more fame, more skills, whatever. You’re going to need to pay attention to the next big thing in DJing. Because “just about anyone can make a mixtape using DJ software,” according to UK DJ and producer David Dunne, you need to do something that makes you stand out. That’s where the idea of doing a mix show comes in.

A mix show combines your programming with your personality. You play mixes that the crowd loves, and you grab the mic and talk to them.

Check out Dunne’s 7 tips on how to do it right.
