Once relations between Cuba and the US began to thaw, I started hearing a lot of doomsday theories. People were concerned that with the gates open, American companies would flood in and change the quaint, quiet and authentic nature of Cuba. Up to now, that’s how tourists seemed to like it. After all, just because Americans haven’t been free to visit the island paradise doesn’t mean that no one has. Canadians and Europeans have long seen it as the perfect winter get-away. Cuba is clean, inexpensive and offers awesome, fresh food and perfect weather temperatures.

Will Cuba change once American companies begin moving in? Probably. But any changes will happen with the consent and support of Cuba’s citizens. That’s usually how it happens anyway.

We won’t need to wait long to see what happens. Major Lazer is the latest act to take its show to Cuba. The group is set to play a free concert for thousands of Cuban fans directly in front of the US Embassy in Havana.

The festival is billed as a cultural exchange and will showcase big name artists as well as local DJ talent.

If you can’t get to Cuba to enjoy the show. Have a listen to some Powerful – by Major Lazer featuring Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley here.
