How’s that for bad publicity – one of the winners of a Thre3style event “was discovered to have faked his set.” If Red Bull can fall victim to these kinds of scams, what are the rest of us supposed to take away from it all?

We look to these competitions as sources of inspiration. These DJs have worked really long and hard to come up with interesting routines, right? Well, apparently what they’ve worked long and hard on is how to dupe the rest of us.

So, most of us aren’t at these competitions watching the whole show go down. But the judges are there. Why aren’t they able to pick up when a DJ is faking it? Any ideas?

Dan White over at DJ Tech Tools has some ideas on how to prevent fake DJ routines from getting too far in competitions. Check out his ideas here.

Tell us what you think, and whether there are other ways of identifying fake routines.
