The libraries in the city I live in recently started a new program. Along with books and movies, patrons can now also borrow musical instruments. The Enterprise Library in Las Vegas has gone one better. People there have developed a DJ learning lab that’s free for the community to use.

Anyone of any age can book a time, show up and just practice. The program levels any barriers to access for people (kids, especially) who want to learn to DJ, but who can’t afford the fees associated with other incubator programs, lessons or equipment.

But Enterprise didn’t stop there. The program joined forces with McCarran International Airport’s Voices of Vegas series. So, this year as patrons of the Electric Daisy Carnival descend from the planes, they will be greeted by three DJs. The best part is that these three DJs are typically young people who have honed their skills through the library program, and who might never have had the opportunity to become DJs otherwise.
