Some people think that DJs aren’t artists because they don’t create anything. They just mix other people’s creations. Sure, some do no more than that. But, they can’t all be painted by the same brush. At the very least, figuring out how to put together a great playlist to move a crowd is an art in itself.

There are, however, other DJs who are really quite multi-talented. Take Martin Garrix, for instance.

This Dutch DJ is also a composer and a musician. He has a relationship with the songs and mixes he creates that many other producers can’t really access. Professional DJs, like all other professionals in any other industry, are always interested in how people like them go about doing what they do.

So, in the spirit of learninghow to be a better DJ, producer or artist in general, Magnetic Magazine recently interviewed Garrix about his music-writing process.
