Mental Health Awareness Week doesn’t actually happen until the first week of May. But, there’s no time like the present to look inward and make sure that we’re taking care of ourselves. You have to think that as a DJ you’re constantly putting yourself forward as the person who’s in charge of other people’s entertainment.

Club managers, event organizers, and the dancing crowds … they’re all looking at you to provide them with a good time. That’s a lot of pressure. If you do up to a few times a month, you probably have no problem handling it. Up the frequency, though, and suddenly you might be finding yourself cracking under the pressure.

There’s absolutely no shame in that. You are just human after all. The best thing you can do for yourself right now is to start taking care of you.

  1. Get healthy, if you aren’t already. Hamburgers and fries might smell great, but have them as an occasional treat. Make healthy food choices.
  2. Get fit, even if that means going for a 10 minute walk every day. You don’t need to take out an expensive gym membership or drop thousands of dollars on weight lifting equipment. Just choose an activity you enjoy, and do it.
  3. Get grounded. You can only do what you can do. There’s no shame in taking a break or setting limits. You know who you are, make sure everyone else does, too.
